What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church - Fountain Inn, SC based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons, The Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It was written by men who were divinely inspired by God. In Scripture, we learn that God has revealed Himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God. God has also revealed Himself through all of creation, known as natural revelation (Romans 1).

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations (Genesis 1 and 2).

Marriage

According to Scripture, we believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman for life.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God and fractured all of creation ever since that time (Genesis 3).

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. Salvation cannot be obtained by works or living a morally good life. Man is born sinful and can only find salvation through the blood that Jesus shed at the cross. Jesus gave up His life, which was sinless, and became a substitute for the sins of everyone in the world. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. Salvation is obtained by grace that only God bestows. You must believe that Jesus came to die for you and place your life and trust into God's hands and follow Him. That is why salvation can only be found in Christ alone.

Baptism

Baptism is achieved by full immersion in water. This is an act of obedience that gives public testimony to salvation. It is an outward expression of one's salvation.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
